Nordic Choir, founded in 1946, enjoys national and international stature as one of the premier collegiate choral ensembles in the United States. Acclaimed for the way it honors the Lutheran choral tradition while also featuring new and innovative choral works, the choir showcases versatility, artistry, and technical mastery across many genres of music. Nordic Choir is Luther College’s principal choral ensemble.
Since 2017 Nordic Choir has been under the direction of Dr. Andrew Last ’97. Previous Nordic Choir conductors include Sigvart Steen (1946-48), Weston Noble ’43 (1948-2005), Craig Arnold (2005-10), and Allen Hightower (2010-16).
Longstanding traditions within the Nordic Choir include holding hands during performances, wearing sapphire blue velvet robes, and, since 1948, singing Pavel Chesnokov’s O Lord God as the signature benedictory.

Matt and Erica Hinton will present their revised documentary film “Awake My Soul - The Story of The Sacred Harp” on Friday, March 27th, 12:30pm, at the Telfair Museum of Art in presented by the 2026 Savannah Music Festival. A short demonstration singing and Q&A session will take place immediately following the film.
The Savannah All-Day Singing will be held in the nave (sanctuary) of Christ Church Anglican, 2020 Bull Street, on Saturday, March 28th. The singing begins at 10am. A traditional “Dinner on the Grounds” will be served at Noon. Local cooks are encouraged to bring food to share. Singing resumes from 1pm until 3pm. We will sing from the new 2025 Edition of The Sacred Harp.
Compline is a short prayer service where participants "say goodnight to God." This 30-minute observance will combine monastic chant with music from the shapenote tradition.
This offering of compline will resource songs from the American shapenote songbook.
The regular choral compline service is held every Sunday evening at 8 p.m.

Hard Heart Phone Collaborative Time
A listening party and discussion with Nate Spanos (aka Lord Sycamore) as he shares his tracks from his musical “Hard Hard Phone.” We are going to gather, listen, ponder, sketch, and collaboratively pontificate our way through the freshly mixed tunes.

For more than 200 years, shape-note singing has inhabited America’s cultural landscape, from New England to Appalachia. A cappella four-part harmony in a straightforward and unpolished form, shape-note singing employs both sacred and secular texts. Shape-note singers Brian Dennison and Gene Pinion chronicle the history of the art, and an ensemble of Savannah’s shape-note singers provide the music.
